Hello. Been playing LOMSE for many years, and recently came across this forum devoted to it. I'm curious as to what the GS5 mod is, what it does or changes, what it manipulates... The idea of a mod to LOMSE sounds deeply appealing to me, mostly due to experience with the original LOMSE game. Sierra made a great game, but certain areas or features were buggy and certain races were overly vulnerable. Occasional bugs with the AI could also scare the living heck out of me, due to the way in which the AI would happily abuse bugs.
On one memorable occasion where the AI abused bugs, an opposing faith grabbed control of my thieves guild. I failed to realize this before I ended turn, and was mortified at the idea of the AI destroying the building. I sobered myself, and resolved to wipe out the offending party. When it became their turn, they repeatedly spawned mercenary party after mercenary party, attacking my city guard each time. … Despite the basic prequesite to *have* control of a city before the three unit production buildings will work for you...

When it became their turn, they repeatedly spawned mercenary party after mercenary party, attacking my city guard each time. … Despite the basic prequesite to *have* control of a city before the three unit production buildings will work for you... The GS5 mod (and subsequent verisons) is the 5th generations of LOMSE mod I have created. Started out with the GS1, then GS2, GS3, GS4, GS Zero mod, GS5, then the revision of GS5 where I started everything over from scratch to catch nasty (and costly) mistakes I made, and the second version of the revision with added content. The GS1, GS2, GS3 and GS Zero all offered enhancements to the game without modifying too much of the general gameplay. Mostly made edits to unit stats and fixed up some spells as well as improve the unit stat windows and also the artifact windows I think. The GS4 offered pretty much stale balance to all Infantry and Cavalry units, new or improved spells and artifacts. The GS5 offered the most changes to the game, most improvements, new spells, artifacts, better interface and/or dialog panels and the most advanced unit information panel. The GS5R was the revision of the GS5 mod, where I started over completely and re-edited the game up to the point where the GS5 mod was last edited. This process taught me a lot. The GS5R2 is version 2 of the GS5 Revised mod. By far the most advanced with fixes, content and changes to the game. The GS6 mod, which will be the next version of the mod, will encompass more changes and additions to the game. What does GS stand for? Game Script. What do the numbers or letters after GS stand for? The version. B = Beta R = Revised Why do I call my mod GS#? Well, I think I can because I'm the first to really have success with editing the game. I guess it's just like anything, if you're the first to do something you can make the claim. Much like the way of an email address, with no numbers or extra letters after it; you were the first to register the original email address. Also it's called GS# because it makes changes to the gs.mpq. Is that enough clear for you?

Yes, thank you very much. Your ability for programming is amazing. Given that it is named as a modification, it goes with a previously installed LOMSE game?

Yes, thank you very much. Your ability for programming is amazing. Given that it is named as a modification, it goes with a previously installed LOMSE game? Manual installation. GS5R2.mpq gets renamed to gs.mpq and goes into SIERRA/LOMSE/ directory. PIC5R2.mpq, a component and requirement to use the GS5R2 mod, gets renamed to pic.mpq and goes into SIERRA/LOMSE/ directory. Previously saved games are NOT compatible with the mod. Always start new games.

GS5R2.mpq to be supplemented by the necessary PIC5R2.mpq? By what means does one partake in enjoying this creative reproduction of code?

I know very little about modding, but I wanted to fix some minor inconsistencies, like artifacts that weren't matched to the right icon. Anyway, so I found your website, and it would seem that you've done a lot of work on LOMSE. I'll be sure to try your mod and let you know how it went.

I've just barely found this site, and been using this mod last couple of days, and i'm really impressed with it. added some fun things, nice having unrazable villages for towers, scroll speed, just to name a few things.
my question is, how long does it take to make a mod like this?

For one person such as myself? It took me years to learn, and still been learning since the beginning, and I learned how to edit the game and learn how the GS files worked with no previous knowledge. I have been working on it since... the Fall of 2004.

Thank you Mantera. I've loved LoM since I was very young. I listened to the LoM soundtrack today and it made me want to re-install LoM and I will shortly be enjoying your improvements.
