As I've explained, many of Golgoth's followers have begun to fear him and Balkoth. Being that this is under a century forward, and that Elves tend to live for a long time (even ones fascinated with death) there is a bit of a low point in the craze for evil.
Suffice to say, they still will fight, worship Golgoth and slay every Eldren they can and turn them into servants, but when everyone else tries to slaughter you, then you need to lay low.
Thing is, the kill kill kill mentality WILL return, probably in under a century's more time, but Balkoth terrified and tormented his living subjects who could actually feel the pain.
Golgoth is still a foe, but some Golgothans hate him too. They enjoy death and mayhem, but don't want to have some big bad god give false hopes of unholy reward.
If that doesn't satisfy your answer, then answer this: don't YOU want to be a Golgothan?
As for gameplay, the idea is not too different than a mix of Everquest and WoW, but has its own spin. You start off in your starting area with a simple weapon, some basic gear, and some early spells/skills. As you grow, you can go adventure further, entering zones where more faiths will converge for quests, caves, and dungeons.
It becomes more important to beat your enemy to the punch.

Golgoth is gone after LOM ends, so there's a time of peace. With Golgoth gone the idea of a Necromancer who just wants to be alone in his studies is viable. Life and Death are part of a natural cycle, and evil only happens when someone attempts to break that cycle - a Life follower who wants to extend a life beyond its time, or a death follower who wants to end a life before its time, become evil when they do so for personal gain.
This is the reason why even the Resurrection spell is practiced only among Life followers in times of great need (or practically no Elves would die, and they'd overpopulate the lands and do more harm than good) and why Death followers doesn't end up killing themselves.
But that's all faith talk.
Personally I've had enough about games like Everquest or WoW, although with LOM I'd probably give it a try.

That is so true. I see Life and Death as natural forces not necessarily "Good" or "Evil". We only see Death as evil (we are are only human) because it is something we selfishly want to avoid, sometimes at any cost.
To balance the fight between good and evil I've brought Netherspawn or creatures who have embraced Golthoth. Additionally I've introduced "Angels" some who've come back "Alive" to protect the innocent from those who wish to "restore the balance." I consider Sir Lancelot an Angel even though the lore puts him "roaming the land". Spirit warriors would be similar. They are spirits who've come back not Soulless Embodiments or Embodied Souls who've flown back to "save" people.

Well, Vivindi no longer owns the rights to the Lords of Magic title anymore. As previously stated, it was purchased by a company in Europe.
