Hi all:
Can you guys give me tips on how to make researching spells faster? I often get to 130 turns and still have spells unresearched. By then, I had defeated Death already, so I don't get to use the cool nasty spells on them.
The only strategy I have is to try to conquer villages as early as possible and build mage towers there, and to upgrade my buildings as quickly as possible. Is there anything else I can do to speed things up?

Is there anything else I can do to speed things up? Raise a mage in level and experience, have him train in the mage tower and then do what you just said. Upgrade buildings, use villages and research spells faster. Also in the GS5R2, equipping artifacts can provide knowledge of the spell it casts. Depends on the wielder's level and how many turns have passed.

Oh I didn't know that the mage's experience mattered in doing research. So I just had my experienced mage lord sit in the mage tower for a few rounds before I train another mage then.
Guess I'll need to raid a few lvl 8 places earlier in the game, to pick up a few artifacts and scrolls.
When I first started playing, I thought it'd be cool to conquer a village and research magics of other faiths. Turned out to be a poor strategy because it takes so long to research and the benefits of the combat buffing spells aren't nearly as good in a group of mixed-fixed units. Better off just concentrating my resource on more of my own mages.

That strat doesn't always fail, though. Some faiths have very good buffs that can be researched quickly, eg Amazon/Vyantha (lots) and Barbarian (blind rage is orsm to quickly take down a menacing paladin or mage with ranged units). It depends on your mix of nukes, disables and snares, combined with dps units really. Since the Earthen are rich in disables a DwarfxBarbarian outfit can very quickly get you high level dungeons.
I tend to get my first mage high level by the 20th day at the latest, pile her up on exp and then let that exp soak thru to the next generation. And then I send her out again.
