I'm planning on releasing a new PIC5 in the next month or two. It's going to add additional artifact icons and possibly portraits as well. The new artifacts will just be rips from Warcraft 3. It's going to be 50 new artifact icons. Here's a good icon that will be used: A blowgun. Also, some new spell icons will be added to the "Action icons as spells" page. Just expanding the limits for future updates, I suppose. I'll post a preview of the new artifact page later on.

Additionally, I have put in some Diablo icons, from the original Diablo and Expansion. Here is a preview:

I was surprised by first, but they look good together. You mean to include shin's additional portraits, or maybe something else? I really should learn those mpq editors, but I feel more secure with your PIC5R series.

The portrait pack is not exclusively GS5, therefore it will not be included. The portrait pack is separate and may be used with the original LOM or LOMSE.
When I said portraits in the original post, I was referring to corresponding portraits to icons.
Perhaps Shin, if he has time, could develop some artifact portraits. Maybe generic ones, or if he wished, 16x16 icons AND 70x67 portraits.
Of course new artwork is sometimes difficult to fit into the game, due to the way the game chooses to read things. I'll leave that for him to decide if he wants to participate.

so new icons = new artifacts & spells? or is their number limited?
those icons look nice and strangely, fitting (at least in small res).

New artifact possibilities, yes.
New spells, sort of. I plan on using variations of the commands for Spit Web to allow units to cast spells once per turn.
Such plans are to allow Spirit Warriors cast Righteous Bolt, Wisps to cast Lightning, and others. Since the Spit Web command must target a unit and can only be activated when targeting an enemy, I'm limited to using attack spells.

And it's okay for War3 to rip off LOM?
Heroes = Lords.

The famous Fall From Heaven Mod for Civilization IV is also using other game's spell icons (guild wars, warcraft, …). Should be no problem.

It's not like there's any money being made off of this. It's not really a a problem at all unless you're making money off of someone else's work.
That said, the graphics styles kinda clash a bit poorly IMHO, but I'm not sure how to describe what I mean.

Cartoony vs. Realisic? I felt LOM:SE icons have a certain sense of realism. I like that about them.

I can't help that I lack artistic talent. Just not my area of expertise.

I would create the new icons myself but I'm not sure how they created them. I don't mind how they look. I just would like more items.

Here's an update preview. Also increase the image size for this preview. Some of the icons from WC3 look cartoony, but they still look nice.

Very nice! I like the idea that I'll be seeing WC3 icons I'm familiar with. It brings two games I love together! ;D

Here's an updated preview. I colorized some more existing artifacts so they can be used for the different artifacts that use the same icon.

This one looks like it may be the final copy for the GS5R3 and PIC5R3. There's minor changes to some of the existing graphics and a lot of the spell icons I thought I might use before have been replaced with colorized artifacts. The newer colorized artifacts can be used to distinguish between Legendary/Secondary artifacts from plain/starting artifacts. - Legendary Staff for Water will be a little darker blue. - Axe of the Orcs will have green blood on it. - Earthshaker Bow and Reed Bow will be distinguishable from one another, just by looking at the icons. Just to name a few things. I removed a lot of the WC3 icons. Most I probably wouldn't have used anyway. The Diablo icons made a better fit anyway.
