i think warcraft 3 is the best RTS game. Element wise it has the best and perfect fit. I know the game is imbalanced and is in need of some major tweaking. But it has heros which are an rpg element that give the game a 4th dimension. there are 4 races with limited units and a maximum unit cap of 100. this keeps the game progressing fast and smoothly. there isnt to much to get things out of hand and is easily playable. games are usually short and if to much cheese isnt used, its pretty fun. there are ways to counter the cheese u just need to know how. in the end its all about who are better players and have the better units. all the cheese can be countered early in the game. and is pretty useless late game if u stick with the counter.
I've tried other RTS games and they just don't have the same elements that war3 does.

As an orc player, you have to race to bloodlusted ogres.

the elements that war3 added to war2 are astounding. an armor system and dmg type. figureing they have screwed the game up to far to be effective now. armor types and hero skills have jsut made the game full of cheese. the game isnt really played anymore, its more of just knowing what to build. know what to build how to build and when to build on every map vs every race is all thats done now. that and knowing how to attk move. [Laugh out Loud]

Starcraft will allways own you all! All the stuff added into WC3 is nice, but the simple complexity (…) of Starcraft leaves a greater shoe than WC3 could ever hope to fill.

My personal favorite is Total Annihilation. I don;t think any game has done a better job of creating truely balanced and complementing units. One of the problems with Warcraft3 is that the orcs just flat out get screwed. Its much more difficult to win a DOTA match as any orc lord. Regradless as to which you choose. They all suffer from problems that make them useless against an equally skilled player should they choose the right class. W3 is fun, but there are just a few too many holes in it.
The Stronghold series is also pretty good.

And then they smite-ed us with stronghold 2 (which never ever ever ever ever ever ever works...)

Hmm, I haven't played Stronghold 2. Maybe I should download an iso first and see if its even *worth* buying.

Total annihilation thats a good game played that when I was a kid, could take an hour just to find a core builder and capture it so I could play both teams, do you still play it?

Good ol' Blizzard...
While I prefer WC2 over WC3 AND Starcraft, I'd have to agree that SC is extremely fun.

war3 ROC was really good. the expansion fucked the game up. New heroes and units, not to mention the change in the change in the armor system. oh well hopefully sc2 or d3 will be better

The change in the Armor system is totally retarded. I like how they added unarmored (hate the icon for it) and magic attack... But they totally switched things around like they were buckets of retarded flopping fish.

I think with the expansion they tried to take a lot of power away from the night elf, and they just totally made them worthless as a race. They over powered orc and undead. and humans always stayed the vanilla.
Fun game but way to imbalanced.
Boaster, if you still have the game installed it might be fun to play some AT games, just test out some new strategies, or play with some old favorites? what do you think?

And you totally misunderstand the power of Night Elf. Night Elves were always strong. Humans were occasionally strong. Undead were only occasionally strong, based on player skill and bugs. Orc were not always strong, but became very strong with recent patches.
