Bartering: Demand and Threat

Does anyone know the mechanics of these two?

No matter what I do, or how strong my party is - the computer always "declines" my Demands or Threats. The only time it worked was when I gave resources to them as a "Demand" to lower the political attitude for War.

I haven't sorted out the exact mechanics. However, threats and demands are very effective in barter with AI players who have at least Empathy.

Same as you, I tend to use mostly gift and trade, as both options work quite cost-effectively.
