We have many varieties of dungeon that are already within the original version of LOMSE. These all have little barriers and bits of impassable terrain. Regardless, it always seems to come down to two opposing sides closing the gap until they can beat each other's heads in. What about some sort of Fog of War effect within dungeons? At the very least, some sort of effect that prevents you from seeing every last unit on the other side? Naturally, this should be detrimental to the AI's ability to see you. when two units are close enough to "see" each other, then the fun begins. ambushes could be done! A feature that irked me of Sierra's LOMSE were copied units. There weren't very many, but there were still quite a few. Cavalry was shared by Water and Order, Fire and Chaos, Earth and Death, Air and Life. Fire and Chaos also share their infantry Maybe they're mildly different statistically, but they still look darned-near identical. Something for Lords of Magic II that would be nice would be the lack of cloned units. It happens elsewhere, such as Super Smash Bros. Melee's Captain Falcon and Ganondorf, fairly similiar movesets, but at least severe differences are applied.
On a last note, bug testing would be lovable. It's grating on the eyes when a Mage of mine suddenly decides to invert the color of everything in their Library...

They were alloted only a short amount of time to finish the game and release it. As evident from the release of the original LOM and with all the bugs it contained, the team had to make continual patches to the game to fix it up. After a certain point, the guys were able to release the Special Edition, with promises to sew up the game and deliver more of what they wanted to include. I think this was kind of derailed since they decided, or were told, to include a quest pack. The shared cavalry is both a downfall, but it also shows racial ties in the game. Essentially, there is Faith and then there is Race.

Having identical cavalry and infantry bothered me too, I would have liked to see a unique unit for each faith. Water, instead of Heavy Cavalry like Order has, could have crab riders or something.
Air could have eagle riders instead of a copy of Life's Cavalry.
Earth could have Dwarves on donkeys. Ok, that's pretty silly, but you get the idea.
With all the identical units, there wasn't much aside from your lord and champions to distinguish your faith from the others.
