Hey, I'm so glad I found this! LoM has always held a special place in my heart. I think it's the first real computer game I ever played (and certainly the one I always come back to). Anyways, I have a couple questions about map-making and a gameplay aspect I was always curious about.
The first one was always just an unfortunate irritation that I encountered when making my own maps- is there a way to title encounters yourself? It's a little boring to place 6 "Animal Encounters" across the map. It seems like I've always looked for an answer and no one's ever given a clear and concrete one.
The second question I have is more along the lines of actual gameplay. It seems like, when I played through, there were always some champions that could push the experience given in a training building a little further than others. Like, the level 10 Death Thief, in my memory, would give a little bit more than the level 10 Amazon Thief, or an Order Warrior more than a Life Warrior. Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I just making this up.

You can place other encounters besides Animal Encounters. You have the option of Centaur Encounters, Fire Encounters, etc. in the unmodded game. In the GS5R2 mod, you can place virtually any encounter. You can turn off the option of randomly placed encounters and place your own. The second question I have is more along the lines of actual gameplay. Or am I just making this up. Champions train troops based on their own experience points. If your Amazon Thief is Level 10 and has 66,000 experience, she will confer 10/20/30% of her experience total experience to a Guild. If you have an Assassin that is Level 10 and has 90,000 experience, he will confer the same rate of experience based on total experience to a Guild. The 10/20/30% is based on the Level of the Building where experience is being conferred. Is that enough clear for you?

Heh, well yeah, I meant more "is thare a way to change the name of the <Blank> Encounter" so that instead of placing what in LoM(first) was a Water Tower sprite with a "Fire Encounter" name, you could make it a fire encounter, Water Tower sprite with the name... "Water Tower". Or sometihng, heh, just looking for a way to get more customizability out of the dungeons!
And I figured it had something to do with an experience factor- so is there an experience cap for champions, or can they just gain infinitly? Up until now, I had always just assumed that some had a greater requirement number between different levels (that a Death Assassin just required more XP to get to 10 than an Amazon did). I've just been looking at the exp numbers on your GS mod site and wondering what the actual story is.

As far as making a Water Tower appear as a "Water Tower" in text, regardless of the encounter type, can be done through modding. Though it would be quite a bit of work and I'm not up to the task as of yet. As far as maps go, I want to figure out why maps fail to load when using Re-sync button in multiplayer. There is a Level cap, but not an experience cap... none that I've encountered at least. Since data in saved and maintained as hex, my guess would be that the most experience a unit could have would be FFFF FFFF, or 4,294,967,295. But I can't say that with absolute certainty.

Ahh, yeah, I getcha I getcha. I've been playing the GS mod nonstop for the last week too, heh, and I love the changes that you did (particularly the change to the placed dungeons, so that a "Fire Encounter" in a Barrow is no longer "Fire Encounter" but simple "Barrow!). Not to mention all the other little bonuses like the level 11 "Faith Keeps" that now appear in the proper areas.
I have some new questions though- did you change the "Small Outposts" that previously spawned around the Order capital back into "Huts"? And the "Keeps" around them into "Large Estates"?

I may have changed Small Outposts to Huts, I don't recall exactly. But Large Estates have always been known as such.

oh, I'm sorry, I should clarify! I'm talking about the icon used for them. I'm curious because in oringinal LoM, it was the Huts graphic that spawned around the Order capital, which was changed to the Small Outpost graphic in LoMSE, at which point (for some really dumb reason) the Huts graphic replaced the Oceanic Shrine that previously spawned around the Water capital in LoM, but now in this GS mod, there are the same Hut graphic for the dungeons that spawn around both the Water capital and the Order capital (although they're called different things), and I was wondering if you'd done that yourself or...

I believe I tried to restore it to the way it used to be in the original LOM. But the Water region's cave aren't called Huts or Oceanic Shrines. I think I called them something different.

Oh! Yeah, you called them "Water Houses" and left them as the "Hut" graphic. Well, if your intent was to restore some of the original LoM, it'd be cool if you changed them back to the "Oceanic Shrine" cave with the "Oceanic Shrine" graphic in the next update or something (if you forgot, "Oceanic Shrine" is the other water/shell-looking dungeon that usually has the "The keepers of this small temple were slaughtered by a bunch of <religion> followers" intro text).
But I don't know how hard the coding is for that or anything. Just an observation, and I was curious as to what had gone on.

I plan to leave them as "Water House" so that either the Hut sprite or the Shell Sprite would be appropriate. As far as changing the auto-matically generated dungeons for water's region to the Shell sprites, that would be easy. However, for the most part, the dungeons sprite type depend mostly on the terrain.
