I'm sometimes having same problem... or rather was having. I noticed, that the spell always worked if I cast it on army, that included... the caster itself But, in some cases, I menaged to haste my single troops beeing far away ( I'm sure of that, my spy was leading a prisoner to slaughter and he wouldn't made it in one turn. After spell, he does). When it comes to "Spawn Cave", it also pisses me off. When I fight the cave lv.10 and get only resources for a lv.1 it hurts And no artifacts! What I fight caves for are artifacts, not XP! Spawn Cave is an experience generator. Get an edge on your enemies by getting plenty of practice, and experience. All without moving very far!

Yeah, that sounds great if I can afford battling hight level caves without any loses. Then, after week or two, and a bit training in buildings, release truly destructive power. But... at least resources for my effort would be great

Backdraft, the spell on the legendary staff for fire mages, isn't working when I try to use it. My fire mage lord just looks like she is trying to cast something, then she just stops. I have tried it over and over on different encounters and it hasn't cast anything yet.

I cast it at the very beginning of the encounters. The enemy walks all the way up to my mage lord, and she just starts attacking them as if she wasn't trying to cast a spell or if she finished casting it already. Yet nothing was ever cast. She clearly started to cast something, yet no fireballs or any damage to the enemy came out of it. She just stops casting all of a sudden and then the enemy gets closer and she walks up and starts attacking them. Are there any requirements to be able to use the artifacts spell? Maybe its my computer or something. Everything else seems to work fine in the game, this one spell just doesn't seem to be castable whenever I have tried it.

You're right. After testing, I got a few errors and will investigate.
Thanks.

Your very welcome. Glad to be of any help. Thank you though for looking into it and for the great work with the mod.

I noticed, that the spell always worked if I cast it on army, that included... the caster itself That's obviously the closest range. Point blank. ;-) But, in some cases, I managed to haste my single troops beeing far away. By now, I think, I have found that it's indeed a (fairly short) range that governs success. Just too bad the game isn't more expository about that. When it comes to "Spawn Cave", it also pisses me off. When I fight the cave lv.10 and get only resources for a lv.1 it hurts And no artifacts! What I fight caves for are artifacts, not XP! I figure that artifacts are supposed to be limited in number and scattered at the start of the game. To get them, one must explore. Since exploration is sloooow, one can't count on finding the ones one wants. Buying them with points in the Custom Game setup is the better choice. You'll have the one or two quintessential artifacts off the bat when they are the most useful. I did use respawn to train troops (and saw the resources as a small but welcome bonus). Still, I found that the process was still too slow. As with researching spells, which I rarely get up to high before I win, I found I won the game while I was still training my Lich at home. In the modded version things don't seem to have changed enough to alter this pattern. The changes did allow me to play Water for the first time, though. (using that water faith chalice artifact and one other -- summoning elementals and grendels all the time and an occasional sea snake). Same ultimate game plan, though: after the first phase of having neighbors swear fealty, conquer the rest with drakes or dragons mostly. It's becoming somewhat monotonous. I guess, playing different maps might bring some change... It's funny that my Chaos neighbor had a witch in his ranks. Apparently those kinds of units can only be bought in Custom setup (or perhaps freed?) but not bought in buildings where other units (e.g. shamans) are bought? Besides water, anybody have other suggestions of faiths made playable by the mod? :-)
