This is GS5 Mod Questions Thread. This is specifically for the latest version of the GS5 mod (Revision 3). In your quests to become better familiar with the mod, you will no doubt have questions. Your questions will be answered as best they can be -- by either myself or someone else familiar with the mod.
The format all will follow will be as described: One Question Per Post. One Response Per Post.
Two Questions by one person may not be asked back to back (i.e. double post, i.e. ask TWO questions or more in a row, without another person having asked a question in between, or having received an answer). Basically means, your posts containing Questions may not touch, they must be divided by a Question from someone else, or must be divided by an Answer.
One person additionally refers to: IP Address of posting, one living body with multiple accounts, a single account.
If the above scenario ensues and where you have asked a question and choose to ask another, you must delete your post so as not to break or infringe the provided format.
Posting a question does not guarantee an answer. If a question is not answered, it does not warrant asking it again. If the answer is "No answer" or any derivative thereof, the question is answered and may not be asked again.

I noticed that when non-champion units reach their max level, the don't receive any additional experience, however the combat experience results are still divided among all units as if those units did. Is that a bug, by design, or just something unavoidable?

It's by design for non-champs to soak up the xp from the Champions. Thus, a Champion fighting with a smaller party can get more xp, as it should. That's fair I think.

I noticed that when non-champion units reach their max level, the don't receive any additional experience, however the combat experience results are still divided among all units as if those units did. Is that a bug, by design, or just something unavoidable? Prior to recent changes to experience in the GS5R3, max level military units (military units refers to any NON-champion unit, not to be confused with Military Class) will not receive additional experience from combat. The total experience gains from combat will still include them in how many units to divide the experience among, but only those who are not max level will actually gain experience. Max level champion: No experience received; still considered in experience division. Champions will always receive experience bonus, even if max level. Additional experience beyond max level is helpful as the champions can confer more experience while training units in the buildings. Now consider the recent GS5R3 changes to experience: -Max Level military units count for less units by 1/3, meaning they account for 2/3 of a unit in an army. -Example: A full party of 12: 3 champions, 9 military units. All military units are max level. Instead of the group dividing experience between all 12 units, the experience distribution will be AS IF there were (9 * 2/3) 6 military units, plus the 3 champions. So a party of 12 will receive experience for champions as though the party were 3 less units. Why was this done? -Large parties were usually things players stayed away from because of the large load of experience needed by Lords. -Creatures who are summoned as max level (Temple Creatures) might actually get used more. Not saying this will make every player use a LARGE army, but their experience gains will suffer less. So just think that for every three max level military units you have, experience is distributed as if one of the three do not exist. Why military units cannot gain further experience after reaching their max level: they don't need it; it does nothing. Also since their experience gains freeze after max level, it can serve the player as a reference point.

do you have to open lords of magic itself to use GS3R5? You need a full install of LOMSE and you need the PIC5R3 and GS5R3 MPQ files. Install LOMSE. Then install the PIC5R3 (Install_PIC5R3.bat). Then install the GS5R3 (Install_GS5R3.bat). Then start LOMSE.exe.
