This is the (LOMSE) Lords of Magic: Special Edition board! Many wonder, what is Lords of Magic? Its a (TBS) Turn-based Strategy game that in some way or another shaped some of the modern (RTS) Real-Time Strategy games. Lords of Magic was created in 1998, and back then not many games had well-off graphics.
In Lords of Magic there are Eight Faiths, four elemental and four spiritual: Life, Death, Order, Chaos, Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. Within each faith a player can select a LORD (or Hero character). For each faith, there are 3 classes of Champions: Warrior, Mage, Thief. This makes up a total of 24 possible Lords to choose from and each Lord is diverse and has its specialty.
In Lords of Magic, the world was at a state of balance and peace. However this was changed when the God of Death, Golgoth, and his mighty champion, the Dark Lord Balkoth on his flying beast, came into the picture. Balkoth is the epitome of worldly power. As Strong as any warrior, strikes as well as any thief and wields magic like a great wizard. Once you have defeated Death, you may summon the Dark Powers and become Death. But one must remember, the power of darkness is dangerous and unknown. Is it more fun to play as Death, or more fun to oppose Death? The choice is yours!
Commonly you will find that the opposing faiths are across from each other in the turn dial located in the bottom right of the Map screen.
Earth vs Air
Chaos vs Order
Fire vs Water
Death vs Life
Dwarves, Gnomes and Halflings are servants to the powers of Earth.
Storm Giants and Faeries are servants to the powers of Air.
Barbarians, Goblins, and Orcs, are servants to the powers of Chaos.
Humans are servants to the powers of Order.
Amazons, and many amphibious creatures are servants to the powers of Water.
Fire Giants, Demons, Dragons, and some villanous Dwarves are servants of the powers of Fire.
Elves are servants to the powers of Life.
Dark Elves, known as the Golgothans, and their undead servants comprise to the powers of Death. Some humans have found themselves worshipping the unholy powers as well.
Earth, Chaos, Fire and Death are apart of one axis of power while Air, Order, Water, and Life are apart of another axis of power. However, these eight faiths are not bound to their ancient pacts.
In this game History becomes Legend, and Legend becomes Myth. In time, myths become forgotten; and so, they reemerge. If you can see through the myths and learn the true tales of the ancient times, your path to a clearer understanding may lead you to new revelatons. There are many different creatures in the magical world of Urak. It is up to you to discover them.
This forum is designed for the discussion of this underrated and forgotten game. If you are interested in playing this game, there is a demo available that can be found on Sierra's website (or try a Google search). If you are interested further more in the game, you can purchase it for $10 online (Ebay or Amazon.com), or possibly at a local retailer (not likely though).
The Sierra Company no longer exists as a single entity and is legally owned by its parent company Vivindi Universal. The one and only patch for the game cannot easily be found anymore, but I have taken the liberty of making it available for download at my website: impz.xorgate.com/LOMSE/
The choice is yours. Choose your path, choose your destiny.
