Which spell, in your own opinion, is the most powerful and why?
Let's split things up into categories:
Offensive Defensive (including General book spells) (and) Overland Map

Freeze
The ability to remove any unit, especially casters out of play is invaluable.
I am also very fond of PACIFY... it is amazing.

Freeze The ability to remove any unit, especially casters out of play is invaluable. I am also very fond of PACIFY... it is amazing. Pacify is a good spell, and so is Blind Rage. Pacify is good offensively to interrupt mages or take out powerful melee combatants. One minor change coming up is it's ability to effect Unique target types, where it requires the caster to be a full level above the Unique target when used offensively. Pacify is also good defensively to bolster the defense of a unit, who might otherwise die. Using Blessed Armor before will surely make the unit more durable with Pacify. Blind Rage can be used offensively and defensively well, but it is often harder to find a defensive use. This spell can definitely take a mage out of play because it temporarily reduces their mana to zero. Soon Blind Rage will be more beneficial for Ogres in combat. Freeze on the other hand removes units from play, but also makes them physical invulnerable and SUPER vulnerable to Fire spells.

First off, Thank you so much!!! for bring back this game. That is so amazing of you.
Second, how on earth do I get to use the special units?
Three, how can we get this to work with Gameranger? I've tried but I can't figure it out.
Fourth, I really want to do a roleplaying Lords of Magic Campaign. I think it would be cool to create a cool map and have the some people just rp the days in the game, a turn being a day.

In order for me to get the mod to work with GameRanger, I would have to reverse cosmetic changes I made to the game. The owner of GameRanger, Scott Kevill, apparently has no intention of adding support for my mod (from what I gathered when speaking to him). Oddly enough he does have support for Warcraft 3 DOTA on there. So multiplayer through Kali is a possibility. Only one problem with the mod and multiplayer right now is a problem with loading the map in a resync. I'll have to figure out what the problem is with that.

Thank you for your answer and Happy Thanksgiving to you!!!! So how do I get to play with the customized Lords? Happy Thanksgiving to you too, stranger. A mod update was released today. So eat up, be happy and enjoy some LOMSE. Thanksgiving is usually the time of year where I spent time playing Lords of the Realm 2. I haven't done that yet; I'll have to load it up.

Unless its been changed since the mod, I remember the Chaos spell Vortex being extremely powerful when cast by a high-level mage. Capable of annihilating an army if used in the right place. Fireball is similar but less powerful, but cast a few and you can still destroy armies with ease. I like the Death spell (can't remember what its called), which summons a shadow which follows a target and kills it instantly on contact. Their raise skeleton/zombie spells are also good, but they only seem to work half the time - another bug in LOMSE I guess

I dropped into battle with my Elite Huntress versus Balkoth and his minions. She had an artifact that allowed her to cast Hand of Fate - which I had her do, on Balkoth. Insta-kill, can you say it?
But Inferno is very good though. Maybe not the most powerful, but certainly close.
Lost Soul is very powerful ofc as previous poster said, but is now nerfed to take champions etc to 1 hp.

It's not fatal unless the caster's level is above the units it is damaging. I plan on re-working some spells a bit. I occasionally revisit spells I have made edits to because of changes I've made between now and the last time I made edits. I'd say the spells I have re-visited most would be Polymorph Self, Polymorph Other and Reincarnation (the most complicated spells). Also revisited Gift of Life quite a few times.

There was a considerable difference in level in that case, at least 8 levels iirc. Poor Balky... Anyway, other categories... Defensive - Guardian Waves/Heal Self, closely followed by Pacify in its passive form (from artifact) Overland Map - Party Relocation. will edit l8r...

Offensive: Balkoth's word
Defensive: Polymorf Self or Crusade
Overland: Any of the change terrain spells. Fighting on your own type of terrain can make a big difference in a battle.
I am buyest because I have only had a chance to play death and chaos since I downloaded the patch. And QUAAL is right on the money about Balkoth's Word. It's easily the spell I use most when playing death.

First, Skrag, spell sometimes raising a skeleton and sometimes not is not a bug. You probably tried to cast it on a corpse you used for the spell a while ago. How do you imagine that? Bones getting out of body, making a skeleton and... what? Making a second? There are no bones already!
Offensive: All the spells, that damages whole army, f.e. Inferno. Just enter the combat with mage itself, cast it twice and run! Next, finish them off with the rest of party waiting near.
Defensive: Probably Heal, Heal Self and, as mentioned, Pacify. I was doing nasty tricks while playing life. If you have just one unit of archers (best to have it with full helth, 3 people) and your mage with quite high def. stat, you'll evaporate most enemies with a simple method. First, send your wizard to atack the opponent. Yeah, right at the start. Then, double his defence, hit them with few damaging spell, and hope they'll gather around him. Then, shot them with archers one by one.
Overland map: It's not purely overland spell, since you have to start it in combat, but... Golgotha's Gift... I love it <3

Golgoth's Gift can be cast on the Overland map. I made that change several months ago.
Most Powerful Passive-Offensive spell? Blind Rage.
Most Powerful Aggressive-Offensive spell? Single, Hand of Fate. Multiple, Inferno.
Most Powerful Defensive-spell? Single, Pacify. Multiple, Holy Visit.
Passive spells don't deal damage directly. Aggressive Offensive spells deal damage directly.
I think I recall someone mentioning using Pacify and Blind Rage on the same target... I don't know if I addressed that issue yet.

I was playing regular LOMSE ( I think this still applies ) and I entered a level 9 statue. I had a considerable Earthen army entering the dungeon or what have you and I even brought along my Legendary Creature, the Great Worm. Seemed like victory was in hand until this level 9 Fire bitch cast this spell I have never seen before. It hurt her troops and mine. The spell appeared like gray waves radiating outward from everyone on the field for a few seconds and then about half of all combatants dropped dead, including my gnome magician Lord. F#*@!!! This is my vote for powerful offensive spell, I don't know the name or faith origin though?

Guess it was inferno or something. If she was fire, that was inferno. Really annoying, but you can use it for your own reason, beating biggest armies without any casualties. Just take a high-level sorcerer, give him/her a potion of healing and a potion of mana. Then, enter the battle alone, cast the spell till everyone is dead. In most cases- it works.
