All I really want to do is stop the other faiths from liberating each others' temples.. it drives me nuts when there are only 3 faiths left in the game by the time I get started! That's not epic!

Do you play original LoM? Then switch to hard. Every other faith will start with its legendary creature in the temple.

He wants the AI to not liberate other AI faiths, so that he can liberate them.
The only thing to do is be faster. Can't really have the faiths stop liberating other faiths.
