Lords of Magic Comprehensive Multiplayer Thread

So, one major reason I have returned to this game is that I wanted to play some Multiplayer with my clanmates, but it appears information on multiplayer appears to be scattered throughout this forum. What I'd like to do is compile all the useful information into one thread so that a person can easily see what options are available and how to make them work. I will do as much of this as I can through trial and error with my clanmates, but any help would be appreciated. I will edit this post as new information is brought in.
