Super Noob Question: How do you learn spells?

Okay... I spent a good day to beat the game start to finish. I started with the Light Mage.

I know I had to park the mage(s) in the library to research the spells. But how do you "activate" it on the mage? I noticed that some spells were automatically on my mage (such as the ones you use out of combat), but I didn't notice any new spells while I was in combat. I thought I had to have my mage stop by the town or the library and still didn't see any new spells.

What am I doing wrong here?

Well, sorry, I amused myself a bit reading this question

To learn spells, you must make sure that:

1) This is the YOUR town and the mage is of the same faith as town;
2) Town Level higher than 0 (Great Temple freed)
3) Library level higher than 0 (Mage Tower level higher than 0)
4) While your mage is in library, ENTER it and look for the four books on the top right corner. These books are responsible for spell types.
To Learn a spell, click on the book and look for the available options. You should see a "Start learning this spell" or something like that note on the bottom of the right page.
Otherwise there will be a reason written down why you cannot learn this spell.

Well... this is what I've been doing.

At MY Town, I upgraded the mage tower to level 3.

I put 3 Level 1 mages in the library to research. After a certain amount of days, I get a notification that I learned the spell.

I check my main mage (At Max Level) during combat and the spell I've done researching is not there, even though it was of the same faith.

What I'm asking is that after I successfully research a spell, does my main mage have to go somewhere to learn it or is it automatic?

That is pretty strange, and should not be in that way.
