Apologies in case this is a known or pastly covered topic, but does anyone know if there is a way to select the special Chaos champions (Orc Warlord, Witch Lord) from the Faith selection screen? I was wondering if there was a way of doing so from the start to have the special units, instead of customizing the Wild champion into the army and refreshing the game (cheat ¨refresh¨ was used).
On a side note, acquiring units commonly used for marauding parties is a interesting concept to me, and I was wondering if something similar was planned with the other faiths as well (like replacing the Earth Warlord with the Troll King to have access to Trolls). From my testing so far, the only military units that a player cannot seem to acquire in the game through trading/conquest, are Trolls(military unit, not the Rock Troll) and Centaur Swordsmen/Hunters.
As a final notice, might I ask if anyone knows the purpose of the Dread Lich? It seems to be a Lord version of the Lich, whom is a Champion version, but maybe there´s something I am missing aside from the obvious Lord benefits over Champions? Found it curious, since both can reach level 15, but never recall seeing a mention of the Dread Lich (maybe it was the boss of the Death legend?). Just for the sake of curiosity, adding a direct comparison of all three Death mage heroes, Archdemon aside:

Dread Lich is an alternate to Balkoth for AI on Easy or Medium Mode, and is a Lord tier Lich, whereas Lich is your usual summonable Special Champion. Balkoth is always the Lord on Hard Mode. On Easy and Medium, the AI Death Lord can be Ziicon as a Warlock or Dread Lich, Venom or Dark Wielder.

Didn´t know of that feature before, confirmed working as of now, multiplayer games included. And thank for you elaborating on the Dread Lich as well, legitimately did not know about the other modes. I have no further questions on this topic.

Also, apologies for my constant pester, but while experimenting with multiplayer, a new question arose that could be related to this topic.
As mentioned before, your described method works without issues for multiplayer, with any player being able to start as a Special Lord if they type their appropriate name of an appropriate champion (¨Dread Lich¨, ¨Balkoth¨, ¨Valkyrie¨, ¨Elven Prince¨, ¨Sir Lancelot¨, etc).
However, my question would be: is it possible to alter it for the AI as well? So far, getting the AI to spawn as a special champion (in this case, an Orc Warlord or a Witch Lord to get access to their marauder units through diplomacy) was a matter of trial and error, restarting the game until it works. I was wondering, if there was a less tedious method, like editing a certain multiplayer-related custom prefix file, or applying an already implemented feature I don´t know about. <_>
It is only a curiosity, but if you could provide any input, my friend and I would really appreciate it! There´s just so much we don´t know about the game and how it works, yet.

You're saying you want AI Chaos Leader to always be Orc or Witch Lord in multiplayeR?

You're saying you want AI Chaos Leader to always be Orc or Witch Lord in multiplayeR? Umm... Not as much that I want, no. Was simply interested if it were possible to somehow influence the ¨custom¨ multiplayer settings for the AI faiths, not just Chaos.
It is possible to do so from a player´s faith via inter-changing Lord names, so it´s curious, because there are many different types of Wild Lord units in the Custom menu, and seeing if it´s possible to influence the AI faiths to go as different champions would be a refreshing experience (like assigning the lord of Life to be the ¨Elven Prince¨, a powerful polar opposite to Lord Balkoth, or setting the Earth Lord to be the ¨Troll King¨ for funs and giggles).
But it´s just that, for fun and curiosity, sorry in case I worded it incorrectly. ^^; If it´s a hassle to apply customization to AI faiths, then no need, we can always just restart the game until the appropriate Lord set up shows (i´ve set all 8 Lords to spawn near one capital, so it is fairly easy to tell which is which, no problem).

You can set AI Lord sets in 'gs/scenario5.gs' file of the MPQ.

You can set AI Lord sets in 'gs/scenario5.gs' file of the MPQ. That seems to be the right direction, but could you offer a bit more help, please? Shameful to ask, but I am not familiar with reading and editing code, sadly, so it´s difficult to know how to alter command lines.
I know it´s possible in the SCENARIO5.gs to apply the Special Unit cases listed in the lines 637-729 to the ´/assign_ai_leader_types´section of the lines 261-293, but I haven´t got the slightest clue how...

/deldr is Balkoth's unit reference code.
You can work from there, I am certain.

/deldr is Balkoth's unit reference code. You can work from there, I am certain. That did it! Was rather straight-forward, with your hint. Thank you for your patience once again, I have no further questions.
Feel free to ignore this, but on an unrelated note, very impressive work. Almost 2000 lines of code just in one file, not counting all of the compiling and error-checking headaches... It´s a great feat that the mod is working as stable as it does now, goes to show the heart and passion that was put into it´s creation. Might not be much, but thank you again, for polishing this hidden gem amongst retro games.

A work I started 10+ years ago on a game that was almost 10 years old itself.
In retrospect, it was a pleasure! Along the way, there were headaches!

A work I started 10+ years ago on a game that was almost 10 years old itself. In retrospect, it was a pleasure! Along the way, there were headaches! Well worth it. Really shows, as the game is literally built from the ground-up! Every bit seems polished and renewed, as much as the base game allowed, at least.
A bit of a crime that it´s rather unpopular even still. Bypassing the hurdles in Multiplayer, it really is a lore-rich and extensive adventure, especially if prolonged gameplay is possible.
