I just installed the mod and played my first game. I conquered every faith and all temples/dungeons etc. I only have Balkoth left. There is not a single thing that even hurts him a little bit. Max equiped heroes, legendary creature. I tried all magic spells. nothing.
How do you kill the guy? without the mod he is very easy

His magic resistances must come from his shield, I think, I've also realised many spells did not really harm him recently, I did not remember this from previous updates. Go for movement harming spells, stats modifying spells, every faction got a bunch. In fact I was playing Air earlier and I got him by spamming stun and headwin on him. What faction are you playing?
Once you can get to freeze him a little, go for aimed missiles, Balkoth's stats are really high, so his defence will stop most missiles if not charged.

In the last mod update, which may be the one you're using, he is VERY difficult to kill. In the next update, some of the buffs he was given will be rolled back a little bit. The following spells may be helpful in leading you to a victory: Hand of Fate, Rust, Erosion, Blind Rage (not on Balkoth though), Stun spell, Turn to Stone spell, Fireball and Ice Comet, Polymorph Other (though there is limit time, and he might be changed into a Legendary Creature). Also, you can use defensive Life spells on him to reduce his Life Resistance: Missile Protection, Bless, Holy Visit, Blessed Armor. All of these spells may end up lasting only a short while because of his resistance. Stun lock him with missile troops or Raiders even. I had a Dwarven Warlord make short work of him when he was infused with Blind Rage... talking like 70+ Attack and rapid attack speed. Also, just be careful that stun-like spells will have a severely reduced duration on him. Another thing, though incredibly unlikely, is use your Thieves to steal off with his equipped artifacts to weaken him.

I tried most. The problem is not him killing me, as I stunlock him. Freeze/stun etc. are not needed. I just can't do any damage. Fireball/Ice comet etc. do no dagame. I tried rust, but it does not help a bit, maybe if it would stack. I tried thieving is artifacts, but they keep being unsuccessful. I yet have to try blind rage, but my conquered chaos faith only provides me with level 7 shaman's after putting a level 10 sorceress queen in the tower. All dungeons are cleared, so it's going to take me some time to get them to level 10 and try blind rage on a Pegasus or something.

You keep mentioning damaging spells but that's not the way to go, you've not been trying hard enough. I know for a fact Dragon's aimed missiles pierces his armor. And then, even if debuffs are not enough, you can and will buff your own units. Order got a ton of spells that makes specific units stronger (Heroic Demise for one), and since you seem to be playing Fire, Frenzy is also a really good spell to use. If you really insist on using spells to damage him try getting a Necromancer and cast Lost Soul onto him, that should be a nice start.
Don't bother with elemental/arcanic damage, just go for pure damage.
I must also say lv10 for a Sorceress Queen after getting rid of all dungeons is awfully low, assuming that is your Lord.

Lost Soul, 2X TL plus 2X CL of pure unadulterated damage. It may not be fatal, but it will certainly knock him down a peg.

I was playing life warrior and even my fully geared warrior with frenzy and air attack buff spell buff could not put a dent in him. 9x dragons with frenzy and another buff spell same.
Finally got him with 2x lost soul and 1x hand of fate. Took me a few tries, but finally got him with that. thanks for the tip

I experienced the same thing guys. I've been playing this game for the last two weeks and I did not kill Balkoth a single time (I don't like using last save so I consider the game lost if my lord dies). I finally beat him yesterday. I used the spell freeze, which put his water resistance to 75% instead of the 100% I think he had. Then I could ice bolt him to death but it took a ton of mana potions. Here's a picture of his crazy stats before the last fight.

Balkoth gets stronger over time.
The longer you wait to beat him, the more powerful he'll be.
Should be a little bit easier in later builds.
I struggle with him also.

It was turn 157 I think. Usually my games don't last that long, but since I played hard, insane, and no last save, it took a lot of time to build my economy and armies safely. I did enjoy the challenge very much. Yeah, maybe a tiny bit easier would be better, especially since most players are more casual than us.

By the way, Boaster, how are the stats increments in insane mod working? I couldn't locate them in the gs files and I'm curious how you did it. Have a nice evening.

Yep it is! Thanks. So, the way I interpret it there's a limit, the stats will stop increasing by turn 280? Plus champions get double stats bonus for some given statistics? Am I interpreting right?

Hmmm, sounds excellent. Where does one find this 'Insane' difficulty of Lords of Magic? I am looking forward to it.
