Lords of Magic 2 can happen.
I'm unable to reach Jeff, or at least he hasn't responded to his email.
I will buy the intellectual property for the game. Just need to find out who the owner is, and who to contact to buy.
Contact me through the message board.

Hi Mantera,
Interesting post, but what makes you think Jeff Fiske even has rights to sell you the game? From what I can research, he was and Impressions developer working on the original LOM in the 90s. LOMSE is now owned and distributed by Rebelion Interactive, they are quite a large games company, which is bad for us as it means they are less likely to sell on intellectual rights. And if they were to sell it, I expect it would be for quite a large sum.
But theres no harm in asking I suppose, theres always hope.
How are planning on making LOM2 anyway? Obviously it would be an indie project, but do you have a team together yet or anything?

I never implied that. I have had communication with him before, we discussed LOM briefly. Cannot seem to reach him now. Good to know. I had reached out to someone else from the LOM team, who directed me to another person from that team. I was told to the best of his knowledge, it was with Rebellion. That remains to be seen. I can raise the capital for a reasonable price. Hi Mantera, Interesting post, but what makes you think Jeff Fiske even has rights to sell you the game? One thing I've learned is, the path is made clearer after each step taken toward the goal. First step, for me, is obtaining the rights to the intellectual property. Who knows, it could be bought for hundreds or even thousands. Won't know for sure until communication is made, along with an offer.

That is certainly true, but it would be a good idea to have a think about what the step after that entails. LOM2 definitely can happen, what game engine are you planning on using? Unreal 4 would be by recommendation, it allows use of visual scripting. You may already be aware of this, but visual scripting allows quick and easy creation of game code, without needing to know programming languages like C++. You're clearly a very competent person Boaster, as you've been able to learn LOM coding on your own, so I'm sure you'd be fine with Unreal 4 and visual scripting. We are in what I believe to be the golden age of indie game making, there are tons of cheap and accessible tools now available to small dev teams which weren't there 10 years ago, and it's possible to collaborate with other devs all over the world remotely. I was active on these forums years ago, but the prospect of a sequel seemed very far off then, now I think it could be done even with a small team of 2 or 3 dedicated and enthusiastic devs. So regarding the actual tittle rights of LOM2, have you considered that you may not actually need this to do a sequel? There are many games which are considered as the "unofficial sequel", or "spiritual successor" to other games, and have gone on to be commercially successful. Path of Exile and Supreme Commander are two of the games that come to mind, some people even consider these superior to the original games they were influenced by, or even better than the official sequels to these titles. It is very hard for game developers to copyright game mechanics, and they can only do so in a very specific way. So I have no concerns regarding rights to game mechanics. In relation to potential trademarked names and intellectual rights, I'm sure that if we changed some of the lore and names then we can avoid a copyright case. Even if Rebellion games offered to sell you the rights for 100,000. Dollars, imagine how much better the game would be if you invested that money into game development, rather than wasted on the tittle when it's not needed.

I would be interested to see if the IP came with any of the original assets. I would love to see the 3D models they used to render the sprites. If I recall, the 2 releases of this game did sell enough to make at least a million dollars. I hate to see it languishing away unused collecting dust. Reading the game manual the lore is pretty deep too. I really do wonder what is left of the assets used?
