At this point in time, I have no way for players to obtain Lords during actual game play. However, you can always purchase Lords using the Lord Editor.
I was planning to make Lords purchasable through the buildings, but this kind of caused problems where the computer would hire the Lords as mercenaries.

Urr.. I don't really think the "Hire Merc" thing will be a problem unless you see it in a more reasonable way the way I don't. I think if you could make it obtainable it would be lovely. There are lords I would love to obtain. Anyway, looking forward to your new stuffs soon.
Oh by the way, is it possible to increase the barter points?

Yes, there are tricks to getting barter points.
1. Buy as many spells with your barter points as you can. 2. Save to a file. 3. Load the file you just saved. 4. Remove all spells purchased. 5. Save to file, again. 6. Reload file, again.
Then you should see barter points AND spells remaining in the reloaded file.
Repeat the process until you achieve the desired results.

Yep I tried that trick before without your patch. No offence but after I installed it it doesn't work!! any idea why? I'll try again later, maybe it's nothing to do with your patch but my stupidity

I actually have already made all Lords with most barter points, so I didn't have to waste time with the tricks. I hope you can find something to get it to work though. [By the way] if you buy Lord units in the Editor, they will not be marked as Leaders or Heirs. Sorry

Hey, I just remembered a cheat that I added into LOMSE.
Do the CTRL + C keystrokes to open the cheat dialog, then type in "setheir" (without quotations ofcourse). This should set Champions in the selected party as Heirs. I don't think you'd want to use this with normal champions, but that is for you to decide.

There's an easier way to add more barter points. Save the lord, and open the file with your favourite hexidecimal editor. You'll find the file in the custldr directory. (You can use Alt-Tab to minimise LOMSE without closing it.) Go to byte 00000320, and starting there replace the hex digits with the hex 6A01 8000. This will give you more barter points than you can use. You can try Hexplorer on Windows. sourceforge.net/projects/hexplorer/Alternatively, you could write a program in C or something to do it automatically. Perhaps I should do that at some point.

I have a Custom Leaders pack on my website which has all Lords with 1 million barter points. This pack will only work for the GS5, but it also includes being a Lord as one of the special champions.

You can get an extra water lord during gameplay (single player, editing your own map) This is complicated kind of, and you need a high level chaos mage lord with the amulet of possession, or scroll of possession. *NOTE No other champion units can be in your party when using any of these reincarnation tactics on enemy lord units.
Add the green knight encounter from the Order quest. Also add the 'scarf' encounter so you have the option to attack.
Attack the green knight, and possess him when you get to combat, let his axemen kill him. Kill the rest of the enemy units. Dispel the possession from the green knight, and then cast reincarnate on him. This should pop up a water lord unit that should remain in your party after combat. Not an heir, but still a unit with lord stats.
I have not tried this since finding the gs5 mod, I am thinking that possibly using an order mage with possession and a scroll of reincarnation may pop up a lord other than water, but I am not sure.
Also you can add the encounters from the Order quest that leads to getting Arthur, giving you a free palidin lord unit (not sure but it may transfer 'main lord' status to him. Can then let him get killed and reincarnate him during combat to have a chance at a different order lord type.
To get the code for quest encounters, copy the quest map, rename it with the suffix of the other map files (.scn I think?) and then open it in the map editior, hover the mouse over the encounter, and the code will flash for just a few seconds. Write it down and then you can insert that encounter in your own custom maps. Capital and lowercase letters and spacing have to be exact, so it may take a few tries, as it is kind of hard to tell at first.
Both of these may cause the text to display funny (quest text boxes) during normal play so keep that in mind. I've also had it affect bartering encounters in weird ways.
Anyhow those are the only two ways that I have found to get an extra lord-type unit, aside from ManTera's mod, which can give you 3 right from the start.
Oh, You can also steal an heir lord from an ai player. Not easy but it can be done. Run your best thief over to a two level encounter (that is already cleared) near the enemy heir. Wait for him to attack you. Knock him out and kill any escorting units. Exit to world map and the enemy Heir lord should be under your control.
Oh, again. You can also possess an enemy lord in combat, let them get killed, dispel the possession, and then reincarnate, giving you a random lord unit of that faith, although this will count as the death of that lord and remove that faction from play. If you are fast you can possess balkoth, wait for him to explode, dispel, and reincarnate as he is still clickable while exploding.
Note- I am pretty sure these were not intended features so be aware that using these may be considered exploiting bugs. :::blush:::

Yes, the original LOMSE was quite buggy and has many loopholes to it's workings.
In my GS5 mod, Possession does not work on Lord units or Special Champions (i.e. Balkoth, Lancelot, etc.).
Mind Control will work on Lords or Special Champions, only if the faith you're targeting is inactive (generally multiplayer). Mind Control gives you permanent control over the unit and will not die after combat. Experience points and artifacts transfer over. But keep in mind, the target has to be 5+ levels lower than the caster.
