Guys, I found a way to run LOMSE on modern systems in a window without framerates loss, which has always been the case for me with dgVoodoo2. I remember about a tool I used some time ago for Total Annihilation, worked very nicely but couldn't keep using it due to some unofficial patch features written into the ddraw.dll the game uses, So I didn't have much use of it back then. Fooling around today I remembered it and knowing Lords of magic comes from about the same time I wanted to give it a shot: The result is pretty good, definitely much better than dgVoodoo. I can't believe I've always been looking for something like this and it is finally working out, what a find. Here is the link for the tool. Simply go to the releases tab, download the latest zip version and unzip in your main LOMSE folder, where the main executable is. Then you can configure all the options thanks to the cnc-ddraw config.exe, and you especially want the "borderless" one. I'm still fooling around with the different Shaders but so far I think I like the base one more. Hopefully it works for you guys as well.

Dang, guess it couldn't be perfect: getting crashes whenever I kill a death/frozen shade, just seems to be that unit in specific but this is such a shame. I know the tool is the culprit since it crashes only with it on.

I'm not very knowledgeable in computer things, is the idea to make the game run smoother, with fewer stutterings? That would indeed be great. I hope we can find a solution for the crash.
Are you still active in Total Annihilation? I play a lot of Escalation mod games these days, feel free to join us on Discord, Game Ranger or TA Forever.

I suspect some people like the idea of a windowed mode, so they can move the game to a different monitor, perhaps? Or just to be able to multi-task with LOM/SE open.

Well, as far as I could tell personally, it didn't change anything performance wise, It's just that the constant switching of screen sizes never felt comfortable to me, so a windowed borderless is what I've been aiming at this whole time. I think I can try a few things for the crash thing, at least I figured out the cause somewhat: I'm actually not sure either it's the death shade or the frozen shade that is being the cause. From my latest test it seems to be the latter. I'm gonna update this thread later with the bit of information I've gathered. Also, Well I never really fully abandon games like TA, I'm in a bunch of different Discord servers and sometimes keep up with the different projects there. I haven't played TA lately so I haven't been active but just like before this is probably something that's going to change again, depending on what I feel like playing at the moment. I played just a bit of Escalation here and there but I always preferred very fast paced action in TA, hence why still to the last time I played I still use TA Mutation, although massively outdated, can't get enough of it. If you're looking for me you can find me at "Skarn#9334".

Okay, so I did more testing and the issue, although seemingly having something to do with the death shade unit, is not consistent at all, many situations will be fine and the game will run just fine, in others the game will crash on a certain thing happening consistently, and other times it can crash and next time you try to do it it works just fine. It seemed to be more aggravating when there were a couple of death shades and not just a single one of them : the first crash I've had happened because there were both a frozen and a death shade in the dungeon I was trying to do. I screwed a bit around with the death shade unit gs file to see if it was some sort of bug tied to the death sound or something like that but it didn't give any results. I think It's another script that the renderer cannot handle at the time and it's probably a bug that can be solved rather easily once someone finds the cause, or so I think. I'm gonna try and see if I can message the dev of the tool and see if that can be solved, hopefully something can be done.
In the meantime, the tool gives the best results out of all the wrappers and other workarounds I've tried, but it is somewhat unstable and altogether I don't think it's worth the risk to play with it right now. Let's pray something can be worked out in the future.
