Also posted on our Reddit : I've collected a number of custom maps from the Mantera Xorgate forum and assembled them into one single place for you all to download. It is a DropBox file containing 29 Custom Maps created by players almost 2 decades ago. I wanted to preserve these maps for future use. These are the lucky ones that were saved by internet archive screenshots, now they'll be saved forever. Follow the link here: www.dropbox.com/sh/tt2a5zk3q37sft6/AAANRpZpaukS2_mBq9RB7zeka?dl=0To install, simply open the Lomse Installed Folder then find the "map" folder. You can paste all the files directly there. Enjoy!

Beautiful. Just added all 8 maps from your thread. Along with 2 others I found, there are now 40 maps in the DropBox.

I’d love to be able to play on a larger map, maybe twice the size of the standard Urak map. I like to take my time and enjoy exploring the map, researching spells etc, but with the vanilla Urak map it feels like the game is over by turn 100, it's just too small. A lot of rival Lords will already be dead by this stage, and a lot less dungeons to conquer.
There are big maps included in this list, but I've yet to see an Expanded Urak map which keeps to the similar high quality and natural design that we see in the standard Urak map. But I understand it would take a lot of work to make a large map on the same quality as Urak, as there's not just the terraining, but you’d also need to manually place all dungeons as automatic placement doesn't work with large maps.
Does anyone know if such a map already exists?

I don't know that there is an expanded Urak map. But... something may be mathematically possible of expanding an existing map.
Urak is a 128x128 tile map. It could be expanded as a 256x256 map, twice the size. It would basically mean squaring or doubling all tiles (from 1x1 tile to 2x2).
I don't have any mechanism setup, but it could be arranged; it should be very possible to do it with GameScript.

In my topic here: impz.proboards.com/thread/2311/lemmink-inens-maps I explain a way to easily mod the game to have tons of randomly placed dungeons appear correctly in some of my larger maps like Thetis or Vaalbara, which are not too different from Urak in their styles. If you want a map truly close to the original Urak but larger, I can create one for you during the holidays maybe, we'll see, depends if I have time.

If it's possible to do this via scripting then having a scaled up version with every 1 tile equating to 4 tiles then that would certainly be a start and save a lot of time manually recreating a larger Urak. If the scripting is fairly easy then that would be great, though there would still need to be some manual corrections of the terrain (for example, on the road tiles which will look strange scaled up to 4x4).
This scaled up version would go particularly well with the "Insane" mode difficulty in the mod. If the dungeons cant be automatically placed then we would need to place these manually, I'd be happy to help with this and terraining if you need me. I did actually start an epic scale version of Urak, I got as far as terraining Water and Life regions but gave up as it's just so much work and I have other projects I want to focus on sadly.

Well, I'm using Mantera's mod and it states there that automatic dungeon generation won't work with maps larger than the standard size. But if there's a way to add auto generate dungeons for larger maps then that would be a great help if we can terrain an Epic scale Urak.
If I ever get my hands on a scaled up version of Urak then I will be sure to check that out, a huge map of Urak with tons of dungeons on "Insane" mode would be the ultimate Lords of Magic Experience.

Auto generation should work for maps larger than standard. I think the issue comes in with smaller than standard. However, I cannot rightly say one way or the other right now, as I'm a little removed from it.
Just don't create non-standard maps and play in an unmodded game.

Don't worry it works fine! Tested recently by myself with latest mod. It states this because, I think, that it used to be a problem before Boaster fixed it like a decade ago [Laugh out Loud]. I enjoy a lot having a ton of randomly placed dungeons spawning on huge maps. Games can last for a long long time. If you play my maps with my settings, feel free to send feed-backs to tell me if things are working fine or not. Hopefully one day I'll find the time to make your scaled up Urak idea.

If I recall rightly, auto dungeons get spread out further from the player capital the larger that the maps get. I think this was done manually, and maps beyond a certain size defaulted to the last defined dungeon distance.

Out of experience, the balance on the spacing is pretty good on every size, and maps above 384 x 384 are really really huge anyway, I never made anything above 256.

Oh so I tested this on a custom large map, and you're right, it works fine!
Though if we're expanding the map then we will also need to place some dungeons manually, as standard Urak doesnt have enough dungeons especially late game, so an expanded Urak will need ALOT more dungeons.
It's a shame that you can't specify the sprite appearance for Villages, I wanted to create an Order small town area away from their city, with an Archon village with lots of smaller houses around it, but the game randomly assigns the sprite to the village, so my order village became an Air village in game.
Let me know if you want to work together on an expanded Urak map, I have Life and Water area terrained, we could take turns creating the terrain and split the work.
If its successful maybe Booster could include it in his official mod

Hi tommyg. You can make it so that the game will spawn a larger amount of automatically placed random dungeons, I explain it here at the end of the first post of this topic: impz.proboards.com/thread/2311/lemmink-inens-maps You need some modding skill though. But it will spare you a lot of time. For your map, I don't have much time these days, but if you send it to me in PM, I can take a look and maybe give some ideas or advice.
