I wanted to share this beautiful large and highly detailed map with other LOM fans, originally created by Mummra, the map has been further improved upon by Tempest 747 and myself. I know there are other large maps out there, but this huge map has been carefully crafted to resemble the layout and feel of Urak as closely as possible, and contains a massive amount of varied and interesting dungeons and landscapes for you to explore. This map is for people wanting a longer, more epic game experience!

UPDATE OCTOBER 2022: The original Urak XL v3 unfortunately appears to be unstable, with every play through ending upon reaching an unavoidable crash. Even on standard LOM I get the occasional crash, but eventually this map will crash on the same turn, and you will not be able to continue. This always happens during an AI players turn, it has happened on Water, Chaos and Fires turn, so does not appear to limited to a particular AI faith. In my opinion, there is something wrong with the AI that causes this, but we have not been able to provide a fix. The death Temple is also bugged in this version.
Therefore, I recommend a new version: Urak XL v3 fixed, (Thank you Skarn for this!). Sadly, this version has fewer dungeons but should be more stable. The Death Temple bug is also fixed. Hopefully people have a better experience with this map, but I can make no promises, as we may be at the limit to what this old game can cope with.
The map has been designed with Mantera's GS5 Mod, I have not tested whether this works without the mod.
It is recommended to be played on "Insane Mode" difficulty, which makes the AI much more challenging and fun to play against. Insane mode is only available on the GS5 Mod.
Detailed Information on this map:
- items are very rare, the map features the same amount of items as a standard sized game, but they are more spread out as the map is so huge and has so many dungeons. This is both a positive and negative, as the rarity makes it feel like a real reward when you stumble upon an item, the downside is obviously that it feels like there are fewer items as they are harder to find. I had to create a second army for the main reason of artifact hunting, and you should only expect to find an artifact in a level 11 dungeon.
- Interactions with the AI players are rarer to begin with, obviously the map is huge, so you see the AI factions less. The AI is slow at first to clear out their local area of dungeons, but by around turn 80 they will have established themselves well, and they start to branch out a bit more. This is good for players that like to be left alone for the early game, as it gives you enough time to prepare for invasions.
But you can still expect to be attached later on, just as I was starting to feel safe in my capital, suddenly Death rolls up with a full army (did not include Balkoth thankfully), and attacked my capital, then proceeded to wipe my out armies and champions in the area, completely destroying me. I wasn't prepared for it at all and if I had been playing a "No Save" version it would have been a game over moment!
This wasn't the only time death send kill squads, he sent another full army at my capital another 20 turns later, was prepared that time!
I was worried the AI would become overwhelmed by Marauders as there are so many more dungeons, this didn't happen. I think due to the fact insane mode makes them so much more stronger, another reason why this sized map is best played in Insane mode.
One small downside to a map this side is that it takes slightly longer for the game to load the overland screen, but this is to be expected.
Hopefully you will enjoy this map, and for those that haven't yet played Manteras GS5 mod, you really should, the Insane Mode has breathed some new life and challenge into the game. Combine the Insane mode and this huge map for an epic scaled Urak experience!

Thanks lemminkainen! Of course, the full credit should go to Mummra, as it must have taken him so long to terrain a map this size. But I have made a lot of improvements to the terrain itself, in the hope of making it more varied, more interesting and closer to the original Urak design.
It would be great if Booster decided to include this map in his mod!
lemminkainen, I know what you mean about not wanting to see the map before you play, exploration is half the fun. Though, despite having edited the map so heavily, it still feels like I'm exploring it the first time in my play-through (Maybe it's my poor memory, [Laugh out Loud]).
Let me know if you have any map related bugs or feedback to report. I'm on turn 140 in this map, playing as life and only just managed to destroy the Fire faith, so games are definitely longer. Though, I'm not playing aggressively or expansionist.

I think Shield of Quality is exclusive to the Sacred Knight being 'summoned'. Shield of Righteousness, very likely, maybe. The more dungeons placed, the higher likelihood of artifacts being presented. Also depends on difficulty, as I believe hard mode ignores the lowest 8 or 9 dungeons in each region in regards to artifacts.

Anybody having stability issues with the map? I'm finding that every once in a while, my game de-windows and freezes. CAn't close it w/o alt-f4. Most recently, for me it's Turn 49 of an Order game (on huge urak) when it gets to Chaos's turn the game keeps crapping out.

hello there, the map looks very nice but i encounter two problems.
1. the game crashes somtimes in turn 10-15 when
2. i can not enter the death tempel. It seems not possible to move the Army there and there is no grey flag above like in dungeons with neutral armys. like there is only the image of the death temple not a "real" budling. These problem did not appeared with the fire nation.

What form does your crash take? Mine minimizes the game and freezes it so I have to ctrl-alt-del it. Early in the game I could just re-load the game and carry on. Once I got to that turn 49 crash it was completely deterministic. It was happening right when the turn wheel went to Chaos. The crashes before seemed random.

It is pretty likely crashes happen because of the map size and total elements on it, and the game runs out of memory eventually. As long as you're able to load your autosaves you should be good, those doesn't threaten your game (shouldn't). Also really looking forward to trying this out, I actually started a new game recently on a beta version of this map, going to go in there and see how much has changed!

I tried an newrun with life. The problem with the temple did not appear but the other bug reapears. After about 10 turns the game crashs (black screen) and i only can close the game bei taskmanager. Somtimes just load the save game is enought and the bug dose not reapear for about 10 turns. Right now im stuck at turn 70-80 and it crashs every time at the same spot (finshed my turn -> crahs when Chaos moves). Reload an older savegame was not enought to "bypass" the error.
Quit frustrating because it looks like my campain is broken.

This is more or less exactly what's happening to me. I haven't explored up to the Death Temple though so I can't speak to that issue. I didn't have any issues conquering Water when I got to them. I was working my way probably to Fire's area. I was worried that I used a custom start that I had saved from an earlier version of GS5, but that doesn't appear to be your issue, so it's likely a coincidence. The big thing in common appears to be some sort of chicanery with the lord of chaos.

Use cheat codes and see what's going in chaos region? I know it kinda ruins the game, but not as much as it being unplayable. I can't test atm, too busy to launches games yet.
I've played many, many big LOMSE games (with the mod) on 256+ maps through the years, and they don't crash much more than other maps, although they tend to be a bit slower in turn loading times.

Yep, after testing this a little it seems the map is unstable, crashes after a few turns even early on, at least here. I've had this happen before and I know it's the same issue because of the slight lag that happens between Faith's turns: there are likely too many elements on the map for the game to properly handle (likely too many dungeons). I'd try deleting a few of them and see how the game handles it afterwards. Other than that I have no idea.

in the location "savgame" are just savegames who came with the installation.

Yes exactly, in the folder \Lords of Magic Special Edition\English\savegame You will find all the savegames that came default. Some end with .lom others with .sav
When you are playing the game and hit the save button it allows you to name your save file. In the savegame folder you will look for the file you just named. It does not have any file types. It is not a .sav or .lom
It will just simply have the name you gave it from the in game save feature.

I can confirm the Death Temple bug, and it seems to be an issue that goes to other dungeons as well, taking a quick glance at the map some caves for example in fire's domain are also unselectable. I have not fully tested the life crashes save but jesus are the loading times long. In any case I'd really just strongly recommend the authors go ahead and delete dungeons since I'm pretty certain this is the issue here.
